Bishkek, Aug. 17, 2018. /Kabar/. Fans of bicycling look forward to the Silk Road Mountain Race, which is to be held annually during the last weeks of August, the Tourism Department of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The event will start on Aug. 18 in Bishkek, and the participants are to cross the finish line on Sept. 1 in Chon-Kemin. The route is 1 thousand 700 km with more than 26 thousand meters of ascent.
The total number of race participants is 96 cyclists from 26 countries of the world.
According to the organizers, unlike most bicycle races, the competition won’t be divided into several short phases, i.e. everything that the athletes do is a part of the race: bicycle, meals, sleeping, and others.
Bicycle racers are supposed to carry their equipment and find food, water in towns and villages along the route. They won’t be provided any external assistance.
