Death toll from large mudslide in central Japan rises to 10

Bishkek, July 11, 2021 . / Kabar /. The death toll from a large mudslide that occurred in Atami, a hot spring resort southwest of Tokyo, earlier this month has risen by one to 10, Kyodo News Agency reported citing local officials.

Eighteen people remain unaccounted for following the mudslide on July 3 in the city in Shizuoka Prefecture, according to the officials.

In the areas hit by the mudslide, a total of about 1,700 police, firefighters and Self-Defense Forces personnel continued to search for those missing.

Shizuoka Gov. Heita Kawakatsu pledged to find the missing people as soon as possible and implement measures to help rebuild evacuees' lives.
