Tashkent, Aug. 25, 2022. / Kabar /. As part of the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Tashkent hosted a regular meeting of defense ministers of the organization’s the member states on Wednesday, Dunyo News Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.
Before the meeting, the heads of the military departments of India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Belarus, as an observer country to the SCO, laid flowers at the Ode to Fortitude monument in Tashkent's Victory Park.
The participants exchanged views on topical issues of international and regional security, identified long-term tasks to strengthen cooperation in the field of defense and security.
During the meeting, a high level of mutual understanding between the SCO member states was noted, issues of continuing cooperation in strengthening security and ensuring stability in the organization's space, as well as in overcoming the negative consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic were agreed upon.
In addition, further strengthening of friendship and good neighborliness between the SCO member states, expansion of cooperation in the field of security in order to ensure peace, stability and reliable sustainable development in the region were considered.
Particular attention was paid to building up the practical interaction of the SCO with other regional partner organizations, as well as continuing to hold the Peace Pipe festival of military bands, which is an important platform for strengthening mutual understanding, friendship and exchange in the field of military culture between the armed forces of the member states of the organization.
Following the meeting of defense ministers of the SCO member states, a joint communiqué was signed. This document provides for a number of activities, including joint exercises.
It was decided to hold the next Meeting of Defense Ministers of the SCO Member States in 2023 in India.
