Bishkek, April 1, 2022. / Kabar /. A delegation of representatives from state agencies of Kyrgyzstan took part in the 9th World Water Forum (Dakar 2022) held on March 21-27 in Dakar, Senegal.
The purpose of the Forum, dedicated to the theme "Water Security for Peace and Development" was to accelerate and effectively implement the global water agenda, which is a prerequisite for achieving sustainable development, especially in countries where water is of vital importance, the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA said.
During the Forum, more than 3,000 people took part in 90 official sessions, segments of different levels (ministerial segment, parliamentary segment, segment of cities and local authorities, and segment of basin organizations), 26 high-level sessions with government bodies and international organizations, 52 special sessions and various side events on the Forum's theme.
Deputy Director of the Seventh Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Namatbaev spoke on behalf of the Kyrgyz side at the special session "Cooperation of Central Asian countries to ensure water security in the context of the Climate Change”.
During his speech, Namatbaev noted the negative impact of climate change on the Kyrgyz Republic. He paid special attention to reduction of water resources as a result of glacier melting, decrease in seasonal precipitation and other factors.
He informed that rational and efficient use of water resources and their energy potential with the observed growth of demand for water and energy resources in the country is one of the priority tasks for Kyrgyzstan on the way to achieve sustainable development goals.
The Forum resulted in the Dakar Declaration, which calls for encouraging innovative financing mechanisms and private sector investment in water supply and sanitation.
The World Water Forum is the largest event devoted to discussion and adoption of long-term decisions on global water problems. The Forum has been held every three years since 1997. It is organized by the World Water Council, an international body established in 1996 at the initiative of water professionals, scientific community, and international organizations.
