“Her youngest daughter was also wounded in the leg. When we visited them, she said that they were injured when Tajikistan began shelling civilians from a helicopter. Despite the fact that they saw that among the people there were children and women opened fire to kill,” Karmyshakov said.
12-year-old Madina Rakhmatzhanova died on April 29 when she left the village with her mother and younger sister during the armed aggression of Tajikistan.
The conflict at the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan occurred on April 28 after the citizens of Tajikistan began to install surveillance cameras at the water intake in the village of Kok-Tash, Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic. As a result of a verbal skirmish, residents of the two countries began to throw stones at each other. On April 29, the situation escalated, the Tajik side opened fire. The armed border services of the Kyrgyz Republic took retaliatory measures.
According to the Kyrgyz Border Service, the Tajik military began shelling Kyrgyz citizens from mortars and a helicopter.
On April 29 evening, the foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed on a complete ceasefire. However, despite this, the Tajik side attacked the border in Leilek region of Kyrgyzstan. Attacks were carried out on the houses of civilians, a school, a kindergarten, a clinic and gas stations in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Also, the Tajik military captured 10 residents of the Internatsional village of Kyrgyzstan, together with the head of the village council. They were later returned.
The situation stabilized on May 1 after negotiations between the heads of the special services of Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev and Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov. Then the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire and the withdrawal of forces.
As a result of the armed attack, 36 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were killed, of which 3 were military personnel, the rest were civilians, including 2 young children, about 190 citizens were injured, who were hospitalized, most of them are in extremely serious condition, more than 40 thousand citizens were evacuated from the conflict zone. 129 houses and 84 objects were burned and destroyed, including a school, a kindergarten, etc.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Kyrgyzstan regarded the actions of the Tajik side as military aggression.
