Bishkek, July 18, 2022. /Kabar/. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Dinara Kemelova met with Caroline Milow, the regional representative of the German Society for International Cooperation and the Programme Manager of the Green Central Asia, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the implementation of the initiative of the German Foreign Ministry Green Central Asia, including the regional projects under it on adaptation to climate change, monitoring and modeling of glaciers, discussing the mutually beneficial water and energy mechanism and climate risk management, as well as the planned in 2023 a regional project on water management in Central Asia, taking into account the climatic impact.
Kemelova, noting the importance of the Green Central Asia initiative in the context of climate change and the readiness of the Kyrgyz side to further cooperation under this initiative, drew attention to the importance of achieving practical results.
In this context, the deputy minister proposed to implement pilot infrastructure projects for the construction of small hydropower plants, the protection of glaciers, the development of mountain villages within the framework of the resolution, adopted at the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic on the declaration of 2022 as the "International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development" and the decree of President Zhaparov "On declaring 2022 the Year of protection of mountain ecosystems and climate stability," ensuring access to clean drinking water in rural areas, including through the transfer of equipment for drilling water wells and building water supply systems
In conclusion, the sides agreed to maintain an active dialogue and close cooperation within the framework of the Green Central Asia initiative.
Green Central Asia is a regional initiative of the German Foreign Ministry to support Central Asian states and strengthen regional cooperation on climate change and environmental protection.
