Deputy FM of Kyrgyzstan meets with special rep of UN secretary general

Bishkek, July 17, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nuran Niyazaliyev met in Tashkent with Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Head of the UN Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman, the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA said.

The Kyrgyz deputy minister informed the special representative of the UN secretary general about the current political situation in Kyrgyzstan, the main directions of political and economic reforms, reconstruction of border villages of Batken Oblast and measures taken to counteract the pandemic coronavirus.

Particular attention was paid to the development of interstate relations and regional cooperation in Central Asia, in particular the results of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov’s visits to Nur-Sultan, Tashkent, Ashgabad and Dushanbe.

In turn, Natalia Gherman expressed support for the democratic reforms in Kyrgyzstan, noting the readiness of the UN to provide the necessary assistance in their implementation.

In particular, she noted the planned technical and expert assistance in the process of inventorying national legislation, holding parliamentary elections, as well as the development of projects under the Peacebuilding Fund with a focus on remote areas of the country.

Besides, the interlocutors exchanged views on the outcomes of the International Conference on developing ties between Central and South Asia. Expressing concern about the current situation in Afghanistan and its possible consequences for Central Asia, Niyazaliyev and Herman agreed to work closely on the issues of refugees from Afghanistan, particularly ethnic Kyrgyz.
