Bishkek, Jan. 27, 2024. /Kabar/. Deputy Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhanibek Zhorobaev met with representatives of the Regional Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Central Asia and the Program Office in Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting was attended by the international coordinator of the Criminal Justice Program in Central Asia, George Abajyan and the national coordinator of the Program Office in Kyrgyzstan Kuban Ismailov.
The results of monitoring of the observance of the rights and freedoms of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in the judicial system and in the probation system were discussed.
At the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation in the field of protecting the rights of citizens.
They also talked about the importance of cooperation in the field of human rights protection: access to justice, humanization of the judicial system in Kyrgyzstan.
“The Ombudsman Institute is ready to continue cooperation in the field of protecting human rights and freedom. We consider it important, after analyzing the monitoring results, to discuss the possibility of developing draft laws to eliminate the identified systemic problems,” Zhorobaev noted.
Abajyan added that UNODC is ready to provide assistance in improving the probation and justice system in accordance with international standards and legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic.
“It is important for us to contribute to the humanization of the judicial system,” he said.
