Bishkek, July 31, 2020. /Kabar/. Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Aida Ismailova participated in the forum on traditional medicine of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) entitled “Unique Role of Traditional Medicine in Joint Fight Against COVID-19 Epidemic" in the format of a video conference.

Ismailova stressed the Kyrgyz Republic considers cooperation within the SCO as one of the priority areas of foreign policy, carrying out the necessary work for practical implementation of all agreements, reached at high and highest levels, the Kyrgyz Government’s press service reported Friday.

"Given the current trends in the world as a whole, I think that within the organization, in addition to strengthening the political dialogue, development of trade and economic cooperation, it is necessary to intensify work in the field of humanitarian cooperation, particularly in the field of health care.

An effective step in this direction is seen as consolidation of efforts of all SCO member states in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, which has become a new challenge to all mankind. In this difficult period, we must show mutual support, demonstrating the inviolability of the basic principles of SCO and the adherence of member states to the basic goals and principles of the Organization, as enshrined in the SCO Charter and the Shanghai Spirit. We need to cooperate even more closely in the sphere of public health and jointly counteracting the threats of epidemics," Ismailova said.

The event is held in order to implement the consensus, reached at the XIX meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of States on strengthening cooperation in the field of healthcare, as well as to fully identify the benefits of traditional medicine of the SCO countries in improving public health protection, raising the level of healthcare, particularly in combating the COVID-19 epidemic.
