Bishkek, Dec. 24, 2020. /Kabar/. Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Elvira Surabaldiyeva participated in the first meeting of the group of women leaders of Central Asia, which was held in the online format, the Kyrgyz Government’s press service said on Thursday.
UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNRCCA Natalia Gherman addressed the participants of the virtual event with opening remarks.
In her speech, Deputy Prime Minister Elvira Surabaldiyeva noted the importance of consolidation of efforts of women leaders of Central Asia in addressing urgent issues.
"The Kyrgyz Republic supports the initiative to create a Central Asian Women Leaders’ Caucus. I believe that special attention should be paid to such issues as gender development, family violence, creation of a database, women's entrepreneurship, rehabilitation in the post-conflict world. For my part I am ready to make every effort for fruitful work within the framework of this platform,” she noted.
The meeting was attended by women leaders from the Central Asian countries: Chairwoman of the National Commission for Women, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of Kazakhstan Lazzat Ramazanova, Head of the Tajik Government Committee on Women and Family Hilolby Kurbonzoda, Speaker of the Parliament of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova, Speaker of the Parliament of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.
At the end of the meeting, the participants signed a Declaration of Women Leaders of Central Asia.
