Bishkek, May 9, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Akram Madumarov talked over phone with Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Azim Ibrokhim to resolve the situation in connection with an incident on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border involving the use of firearms.
Issues related to joint measures to de-escalate the situation were discussed during the conversation, the Kyrgyz Government's press service reported.
The parties noted the inadmissibility of the use of firearms and stressed the importance of taking the necessary measures to ease tension in the border areas and prevent escalation of the situation.
"The sides expressed their commitment to previous agreements and a constructive approach in addressing emerging issues. They also stressed the importance of continuing the negotiation process between the two countries on delimitation and demarcation of the state border," Madumarov said.
Kyrgyzstan’s deputy prime minister gave a number of instructions to law enforcement bodies and local authorities to strengthen security and public order measures, to carry out awareness-raising work among the population of border villages.
"The situation in Batken Oblast is under special control of the Government,” stressed Akram Madumarov.
Conflict at Kyrgyz-Tajik state border occured on May 8 at 6:30 p.m.near the village of Kok-Tash village, Batken region of Batken Oblast (Kyrgyzstan).
It was provoked by Tajik servicemen, who unexpectedly opened group fire (according to verified data) towards Kyrgyz border guards and citizens, the press service of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan said.
Kyrgyzstan's border representatives for Batken Oblast held meeting with border representatives of Tajikistan's Isfara city to stabilize the situation at this section of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.
During the shootout, three servicemen from the Kyrgyz State Border Service of have been wounded to varying degrees, they are receiving the necessary medical care.
