"Development of local self-government institutions and increasing their role is one of the priority tasks of the leadership of the Kyrgyz Republic,” Foreign Minister of the country Ruslan Kazakbaev said during a meeting with President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Leendert Verbeek and Secretary General of the Congress Andreas Kiefer.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported Monday.
"The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the prospects of cooperation of the Kyrgyz Republic with the Congress," the report said.
Thus, the Kyrgyz foreign minister informed his interlocutors about the Development Program of local self-government for 2018-2023 in the framework of the development of local self-government institutions and increasing their role. In addition, Kazakbaev expressed interest in using the expertise and rich experience of the Congress in the development of LSG.
In conclusion, he also thanked the secretary general for his visit to Bishkek on the eve of the Antalya Forum and called for maintaining an active dialogue in the future.
In turn, Congress President Leendert Verbeek welcomed the democratic achievements of the Kyrgyz Republic and the intensification of Kyrgyzstan's bilateral cooperation with the Council of Europe.
He informed about the work of the Congress and potential areas of fruitful cooperation with the Kyrgyz side.
