Diabetes Week kicks off in Kyrgyzstan

From 13 to 21 November 2020, Kyrgyzstan will host a week dedicated to the fight against diabetes mellitus, where online campaigns, conferences, press conferences and flash mobs are held throughout the country within the framework of World Diabetes Day on November 14.

The World Diabetes Day 2020 will be held under the slogan “The Nurse and Diabetes” proposed by the International Diabetes Federation.

The purpose of the World Diabetes Day and Diabetes Week in Kyrgyzstan is to draw the attention of society and government to the problem of diabetes, as well as to raise the level of awareness of the population about the problems of diabetes and related complications.

The number of patients with diabetes mellitus in the world is 465 million, by 2030 their number will increase to 578 million, and by 2045 their number may reach 700 million.

According to official data, about 65 thousand patients with diabetes mellitus were registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2020. According to the forecasts of the International Diabetes Federation, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Kyrgyzstan among people aged 20-79 years will increase to 5.8% in 2025.
