Tashkent, Dec.22, 2019. /Kabar/. Director of Kyrgyz National Kabar News Agency Kubanychbek Taabaldiev, who has arrived in Uzbekistan as an international observer to monitor the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes, visited Bukhara Region, UzA news agency reported.
Director Taabaldiev for the first time visited the 23rd Bukhara electoral district for the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. The international observer got acquainted with the work of the district, its work on coordination of the polling stations.
Director of Kabar News Agency also visited the 31st polling station in Bukhara Medical College, 27th in Bukhara College of Oil and Gas and 50th polling station in Bukhara Regional Law College. He familiarized with the democratic elections and the conditions created for voters.
Taabaldiev commended turnout of Bukhara voters.
Polling stations have closed in Uzbekistan after voting today, Dec.22 in the first parliamentary elections since President Shavkat Mirziyoev came to power nearly three years ago, RFE/RL said.
The Central Election Commission said preliminary results would be announced at 2 p.m. local time (0900 GMT) on December 23.
The elections were being held under the slogan "New Uzbekistan, New Elections."
The five political parties running in the parliamentary elections are all represented in the current body, long viewed as a rubber-stamp institution.
The Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (LDPU) currently holds 52 seats, the most in the 150-seat Oliy Majlis, the lower house of parliament. Next is Milli Tiklanish (National Revival party) with 36.
