Bishkek, June 24, 2024. /Kabar/. The international scientific conference “950th anniversary of the “Divanu lugati-t-Turk”: the common heritage of the Turkic world” is taking place in Bishkek.
First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Bekzhan Supanaliev noted that this event is of great importance for countries where the Turkic-speaking population lives. “Exactly 950 years ago, our compatriot, great Mahmud Kashgari, wrote the encyclopedia “Divanu Lugati-t-Turk”, which became the common property of the Turkic world. This encyclopedia is one of the first in the Turkic language. It provides explanations of all the words of that time. It contains more than 3000 words. This work is significant because it provides information about the culture, geography, and even life of that time. At a time when Islam was just developing on the territory of Eurasia, this encyclopedia helped to study the Turkic language,” said Supanaliev.
He said that this work of Mahmud Kashgari is one of the oldest encyclopedias of the Turkic world and is included in the UNESCO list.
“This book also contains a map of Turkic words and the history of their origin. This is a great value for all Turkic-speaking countries, and the fact that Mahmud Kashgari was our compatriot adds even more value to this work and this event,” the official believes.
