Bishkek, Feb. 3, 2021. /Kabar/. The draft of the new Constitution has been submitted to the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament), Speaker Talant Mamytov said Wednesday during a parliamentary session.
He said the deputies will receive in the near future the draft of the Basic Law for familiarization.
Earlier, the Constitutional Counsel completed work on the new Constitution. The initiated Basic Law proposes to introduce a presidential form of government.
On Jan. 10, 2021 citizens of Kyrgyzstan, along with early presidential elections, were proposed to choose the form of government – presidential or parliamentary.
On Nov. 17, 2020, a group of Kyrgyz MPs submitted for public discussion a draft law on calling a referendum on the draft of a new version of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic. The new Constitution differs significantly from the current one adopted in 2010 (as amended in 2016).
In particular, it implies changing a form government .
The Central Election Commission of the republic recognized the referendum on the form of government as valid. Thus, according to the final data of the CEC, the majority of citizens voted in favour of presidential form of government - 81.49%.
