Osh, Nov. 10, 2018. /Kabar/. A mini-workshop for the production of dried fruits has been opened in Bolshevik village of Uzgen region in southern Osh oblast.
The mini-workshop is run by a local resident Urayim Turdubaev, who has been engaged for several years in training and promoting initiatives of villagers, especially women.
Now 4 women are working in the mini-shop. Plums and apples are bought from local residents, cut and dried using special equipment, and then the finished products are packed and sold both to local residents and to the market in Uzgen.
One of the employees, Nurzhildyz Zainapova, who takes boxes of dried fruit and marshmallow for sale every day said that the products of the mini-shop are sold out very quickly. Dried fruits from apples and apple chips are in particular demand among fellow villagers.
The mini-workshop team plans to improve the quality and promote products not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also for export to neighboring countries.
The equipment for drying and processing fruits and vegetables for the mini-workshop was provided by the UN World Food Program as part of the joint project “Strengthening the Economic Capabilities of Rural Women of the Kyrgyz Republic”, which is being implemented in Kyrgyzstan with the support of UN Women, WFP, FAO and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
