Drones to be launched in Bishkek to identify sources of air pollution

Bishkek, Nov.27, 2019. /Kabar/. The increase in the number of vehicles and the growing network of filling stations becomes an important environmental problem for the city of Bishkek, the press service of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry (SAEPF) said Kabar News Agency.

According to Agency’s data, the rapid growth in the number of cars creates certain difficulties in transport policy, thereby contributing to increased emissions and contributing to issue of public health and climate change.

All large energy facilities in the republic with outdated dust and gas purification equipment and in most cases operate on coal. There are no modern technologies and automated control systems at emission sources.

Motor transport is currently the most intensive source of environmental pollution. Annually, the total amount of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere of Bishkek is 240 tons, of which 180 thousand tons of pollutants fall on vehicles.

Industrial emissions account for only 10% of gross pollutant discharges, and almost 90% of the emissions come from motor vehicles.

Due to the current situation, the SAEPF included in the action plan to improve the condition of atmospheric air in the city of Bishkek the issue of optimization and reduction of the number of minibuses from the city route, while replacing with large capacity buses and gas buses, as well as renewal of the trolleybus fleet and increase in their number of trolleybus lines.

In addition, in order to improve the environmental situation and monitor air quality in Bishkek, the SAEPF intend to install a special station in the capital, as well as to seek sources of smog in Bishkek with the help of multifunctional unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to take prompt and urgent measures to bring the perpetrators to administrative responsibility.

Note that in Bishkek the issue of air pollution is acute. The Bishkek Mayor's Office advised sensitive citizens to wear masks and buy air purifiers.

In November this year, the amount of emissions in Bishkek, polluting the air, departing from stationary sources per person has made 23.2 kg.

With the onset of the cold weather, the amount of exhaust gases of cars increases, the amount of which exceeds the norm, the townspeople begin to heat houses and baths with garbage and rubber. All this leads to air pollution in the capital, an increase in the air quality index.
