Bishkek, Aug. 10, 2021. / Kabar /. Drought and a shortage of irrigation water, have led to a significant decrease in the collection of basic agricultural crops in Kyrgyzstan, the country’s Bational Statistics Committee reports.
According to the ministry, as of July 23 of this year, grain crops (excluding legumes, rice and buckwheat) were harvested from the area of 230.7 thousand hectares, which is 3.3% less than on the same date last year and about 285 thousand tons of grain, or 52% less.
Due to abnormal high temperatures this summer and a lack of irrigation water during the growing season, the gross harvest of wheat decreased by 41.4%, barley - by 57.9%, fruit crops - by 31.2%, potatoes - by 6 , 3% and melons - by 3.5%.
Along with this, compared to the same date last year, there was a significant 8.2% increase in the gross harvest of vegetables.
