Dubai, Feb. 12, 2019 / Kabar/. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) presented the new project Dubai Sky Pods as part of the World Government Summit, where innovations in science, technology and global governance are being discussed. This is an overpass transport system, developed by SkyWay Technologies Co.

The RTA, together with the developers, plans to introduce a new type of transport - Dubai Sky Pods.

Two models of SkyWay transport were shown on the sidelines of the Summit: a double-passenger unibike and a six-seater unicar. These vehicles can move at speeds of up to 150km/h. The new type of vehicle is driverless. The modules are controlled by an on-board computer and an automated control centre.

"The Sky Pods initiative is part of RTA’s efforts to provide autonomous transport, one of the key aims of the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy aimed at converting 25 per cent of total journeys in Dubai into autonomous journeys on various transit means by 2030. It is also part of RTA’s efforts to enhance the integration of public transit means, and offer solutions for short journeys (first and last mile) enabling public transport users to reach their final destinations," Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA said demonstrating SkyPods. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai reviewed the Sky Pods in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation.
