The summer heat set in in Ashgabat in early July. The outside temperature in the daytime did not go down below 40 degrees in the shade and in some days it reached +46°C.
Let us recall that in the past few years the authorities have been forcibly dismantling air conditioners and split systems in multi-storey apartment blocks to improve the esthetical image of the capital.
However, trying to hide from the heat, the residents of the capital are again installing air conditioners despite the bans.
Staff of house administration track down violators and a few weeks later visit the apartments forcing the inhabitants to remove air conditioners. It should be emphasized, however, that public utilities employees for some reason ignore air conditioners of the Soviet brand “Household air conditioner”.
Those residents who have been left without air conditioners put newspapers on the windows and hang wet fabric trying to make a draught or use fans in an attempt to cool down the air.
Sources of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” claim that in hot summer days the number of ambulance calls has increased almost four times. Staff of an emergency department in Ashgabat said that in hot days they recorded up to 150 calls compared to an average of 40 calls a day.
It should be highlighted that in early August the temperature slightly decreased but according to weather forecasts the temperature will remain at +35-36 degrees Celsius until the end of summer. Only in early September the temperature is expected to drop down to +30–31°C.
