Dzhumabekov, Speaker of Latvian Saeima discuss parliamentary co-op development

Bishkek, Oct.16, 2019 /Kabar/. Within the framework of the official visit of the Kyrgyz Parliament delegation to the Republic of Latvia, led by Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, issues related to the development of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

The Parliament’s press service reported that Speaker of the Latvian Saeima (Parliament) Ināra Mūrniece warmly welcomed the Kyrgyz MPs. The sides expressed their intention to work on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, including the harmonization of legislation between the two countries, as well as on promoting economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.

In addition, during the meeting the sides touched upon the possible export of Kyrgyz organic agricultural products to the European Union through Latvia.

“A new page in the history of cooperation is now opening now, and fruitful talks have already been held between Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov and First Deputy Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov and the Latvian side. We are interested in Latvian investments and exchange of experience in building a parliamentary democracy," the speaker said.

In her turn, Ināra Mūrniece noted she knows Kyrgyzstan as the first country in the Central Asian region to embark on a parliamentary form of government.

“We support proposals for the development of trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian relations. We are particularly interested in green economy projects,” the Latvian speaker added.

Then the plans of strengthening the cooperation within the framework of the parliamentary friendship groups were discussed. On the same day, Speakers Dastanbek Dzhumabekov and Ināra Mūrniece took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the Freedom Monument.

The delegation includes MPs Almambet Shykmamatov, Dinara Isayeva, Gulshat Asylbayeva, Omurbek Bakirov, Janybek Isayev and Bakirdin Subanbekov.
