This week it turned out that the volume of GDP is noticeably and steadily decreasing, while the import of fuels and lubricants is provided stably. An important event was the announcement of the creation of a joint Fund with the Hungarians, the authorities once again confirmed that the possibilities of finding additional funds to pay higher salaries to doctors are well thought out.
In general, the events of the business week have been developing in the right direction and the business environment has not yet reached its full potential.
Import of fuels and lubricants. The Association of Oil Traders of Kyrgyzstan this week assured that its members continue to uninterruptedly provide the republic with the necessary volumes of fuel and lubricants.
In January - March 2021, a total of 327.5 thousand tons of petroleum products were imported to the republic, of which gasoline - 182 thousand tons, diesel fuel - 145.5 thousand tons, turbojet engine - 10.3 thousand tons.
Money against the virus. The Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic reported this week that funds in the amount of KGS 2 billion 400 million are provided in the state budget reserve.
These funds are provided to finance unforeseen expenses, including in case of a serious deterioration in the epidemiological situation associated with coronavirus infection.
In addition, by the order of the government of Kyrgyzstan dated January 14, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the country provided funds in the amount of KGS 500 million for compensation payments to employees of healthcare organizations and persons involved in work in the hotbed areas.
Farms for cattle. Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development Marsbek uulu Ilich met with Director of Henan Guiyu Corporation Zhang Shiwei.
The meeting was attended by Chinese companies whose activities are related to the agro-industrial complex of China. The sides discussed further cooperation on the provision of vaccines against foot and mouth disease free of charge. Also, the construction of a farm for 100 thousand head of cattle in the territory of Kyrgyzstan for the subsequent export of meat to China was discussed.
Fund with Hungarians. Kyrgyzstan and Hungary this week signed an agreement to create a Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund.
The signing of the document took place within the framework of the official visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Siyjarto, to Bishkek.
“Today, an agreement was signed on the establishment of a Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund with an authorized capital of USD 50 million with headquarters in Bishkek. Within the framework of this fund, investment projects important for the economy of Kyrgyzstan will be implemented,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev following a meeting with the colleague from Hungary.
The Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund will have three directors from Kyrgyzstan and two from Hungary.
Medical workers’ salary. This week it was announced that the salary of medical workers will be increased in 2 stages.
Deputy chairman of the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund Klara Oskombaeva said that since April 1, 2021, the base salary of family doctors and general practitioners has been doubled. For the rest of the categories of workers in the health care system, wages have been increased by 50% since July 1, 2021, for technical and junior service personnel - by 40%.
Additional funds totaling KGS 1 billion 831 million will be raised from the republican budget to pay salaries to medical workers, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulukbek Karmyshakov said.
Japanese interest in honey. This week, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Japan Mirlan Arstanbaev met with the head of the Scientific Research Institute of Food Medicine Kaname Hirayanagi and representatives of the DM solutions and Japan Style companies.
The meeting participants discussed the export of organic, environmentally friendly products from Kyrgyzstan to Japan. Representatives of DM solutions expressed interest in expanding the names of goods and products imported from the Kyrgyz Republic.
From the end of 2020 to the present, the Japan Style company has imported about 10 tons of Kyrgyz honey to Japan and, together with partners, plans to increase the volume of exports to 50 tons during 2021.
The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank. The head of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, Tolkunbek Abdygulov, this week took part in the Spring Meeting of the Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, held in the format of videoconferences.
As part of the event, a number of online meetings were held, during which they discussed issues of macroeconomic policy and maintaining financial stability, measures taken to combat the economic consequences of the pandemic and restore economic growth in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
GDP volume. The gross domestic product in Kyrgyzstan, in January-March 2021, amounted to more than KGS 118 billion.
Deputy Chairman of the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic Azamat Orosbaev said that compared to the same period in 2020, GDP is less by 9.4% this year.
“Without taking into account the enterprises for the development of the Kumtor deposit, the volume of GDP amounted to about KGS 106 billion and decreased by 4.5%. The volume of industrial production amounted to more than KGS 73 billion and, compared to January 2020, decreased by 17.9%,” the specialist informed.
There are fewer manufactured goods. The volume of industrial production of Kyrgyzstan in January-March 2021 amounted to about KGS 73 billion.
According to the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan, compared with January-March 2020, the volume of industrial production decreased by 17.9% due to a decrease in the production of basic metals and finished metal products, except for machinery and equipment - by 38.4%, chemical products - by 27 , 8%, textiles, clothing and footwear, leather and leather goods - by 14.6%, as well as mining - by 18.1%.
International trade. The volume of foreign and mutual trade in goods of Kyrgyzstan in January-February 2021 amounted to USD 800 million and compared with January-February 2020 decreased by 18.3%.
According to the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan, while export supplies decreased by 25.5%, import receipts - by 15%.
The volume of mutual trade of the Kyrgyz Republic with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union in January-February 2021 amounted to about USD 393 million and compared with January-February 2020 decreased by 12.9%. At the same time, export supplies decreased by 17.1%, and import receipts - by 11.6%. The largest share of the republic's mutual trade with the EAEU countries in January-February 2021 fell on Russia (68.7%) and Kazakhstan (29.3%), the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
Credit expenses. In 2020, microcredit organizations issued loans in the amount of KGS 31.1 billion, while the number of recipients amounted to about 707 thousand people.
According to data of the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic, compared to 2019, the population covered by microcrediting increased by 13.2%, and the volume of microcredits issued by 3.2%.
