Bishkek, April 6, 2022 . / Kabar /. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov is chairing the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

The press service of the Kyrgyz Cabinet reported that opening the Forum, Baisalov noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has not only had a serious impact on the entire world, but has also affected efforts to ensure sustainable development and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Baisalov also spoke about the work carried out by the Kyrgyz Republic to implement sustainable development areas, in particular, sustainable development goals have been integrated into the approved National Development Program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026.

"Considering that more than half of our 6.5 million population is under 25 years old, President Sadyr Zhaparov proclaimed a nationwide goal of improving education and healthcare for children and youth. The implementation of this goal has begun by increasing the salaries of school teachers by at least 80 percent and more than three times. We are launching an active campaign to recruit and train a new generation of highly professional teachers of exact sciences, mathematics, information technology, and foreign languages. For the third day in a row, no new cases of COVID-19 have been reported. We conducted a successful vaccination campaign and, as a young developing country, we are eager to begin recovering from the devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic," said Edil Baisalov, noting that the Cabinet of Ministers is taking the necessary measures to mitigate the external shocks to vulnerable populations.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was established by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on March 28, 1947, to promote economic activities and strengthen economic ties within the region. The UNECE is one of the five regional economic commissions of the United Nations and is headquartered in Geneva.
