Bishkek, June 1, 2023. / Kabar /. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Edil Baisalov met with Director for the Asia-Pacific Region of the Regional Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Indrika Ratwatte, the press service of the Cabinet reported.
The sides discussed issues of encouraging greater inclusiveness of refugees in the country and creating conditions for their integration into society, the possibility of Kyrgyzstan joining a number of conventions on statelessness.
The UNHCR Regional Director noted that Kyrgyzstan has been recognized in 2019 as the first country in the world to eradicate all known cases of statelessness, and expressed his readiness to continue assisting the country in fulfilling its international obligations on refugees.
Edil Baisalov noted that the Kyrgyz Republic attaches great importance to the fulfillment of international obligations in the field of work with asylum seekers and refugees.
The sides noted that significant progress has been made in this area, the legislative framework has been formed, the necessary procedures and mechanisms for determining refugee status have been introduced, and effective measures are being taken to solve their problems.
As a result, in recent years there has been a significant reduction in the number of refugees in the Kyrgyz Republic, which is a positive factor in the regulation of migration processes in the country.
