Bishkek, June 25, 2019. /Kabar/. Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Gulmira Kudaiberdiyeva speaking at the National Forum dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child noted that the school enrollment rate of children with disabilities has increased by 40% over the year.
Active measures taken lead to an annual increase in the number of children with disabilities studying in mass educational institutions. Thus, according to the National Statistics Committee’s data, 263 children with disabilities attended schools last academic year, and 417 children this year (2018-2019), which shows an increase of 40%, the press service of the Education Ministry reported.
Kudaiberdiyeva said that 32 specialized educational organizations for children of preschool and school age with a total coverage of more than 5 thousand children in the education system operate at present.
“Analysis of the situation and research of various organizations show that the most successful way to socialize is by staying in the society, next to the family or close people. In this connection, remedial education classes were opened at schools, and a home-based form of education was introduced for children with severe forms of illnesses who do not have the opportunity to attend school. Work has begun on accompanying a child with disabilities in the educational process through a tutor (teacher's assistant),” Kudaiberdiyeva said.
