Emir Kusturica to represent film about Genghis Khan based on Chyngyz Aitmatov’s story

Bishkek, June 3, 2019. /Kabar/. Serbian director and musician Emir Kusturica will present his new film in 2020, which will be dedicated to warlord Genghis Khan and based on the story of Chyngyz Aitmatov, TASS reported.

“I have an idea now to make a film about Genghis Khan. A huge film about a man who was not loved here and in the west, the film will be ready next year,” Kusturica said, who takes part in the Hero and Time film festival in Zheleznovodsk.

He added, that the imagery is planned to be carried out on the Russia’s territory as well.

Emir Kusturica is a Serbian film director, scriptwriter and musician, leader of the No Smoking Orchestra rock band. Every year he holds the Big russian music festival in Serbia, with the participation of famous Russian musicians. Kusturica, as an actor, scriptwriter or co-author and director, has participated in more than three dozen films. His work has won awards at major European film shows, including two Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Genghis Khan (born Temüjin, c. 1162 – August 18, 1227) was the founder and first Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, which became the largest contiguous empire in history after his death. He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of Northeast Asia. After founding the Empire and being proclaimed “Genghis Khan”, he launched the Mongol invasions that conquered most of Eurasia.
