Bishkek, Jan.15, 2025. /Kabar /. The epidemiological situation with measles remains tense, head of the Immunoprophylaxis Department of the Center for State Epidemiological Surveillance Burul Asykbayeva told on the air of Birinchi Radio.

She noted that the incidence of measles is observed in Bishkek, where the virus is actively spreading among contacts in hospitals.

“According to statistics, 14,380 cases of measles were registered in the republic in 2024, of which 2,129 were laboratory confirmed. The remaining cases were diagnosed on the basis of clinical and epidemiological data. In the past and current years in Bishkek and Chui Oblast, there has been an increase in the incidence of the disease. In 2024, 5,684 cases were recorded in Bishkek,” the specialist noted.

“The spread of the disease among contacts in hospitals creates a serious epidemiological risk, as 96% of those who became ill were not immunized,” she said.

Asykbaeva also added that in 2023-2024, immunization against measles and rubella was cleaned up with 84% coverage. A total of 1,625,000 children were to be immunized, of which 818,930 were immunized.

“Where vaccination coverage is low, the incidence of the disease increases. In Bishkek, people do not go for vaccination, because of which coverage is low, and the number of measles cases continues to grow,” the head of the Immunoprophylaxis Department emphasized.
