EU adopts new Multi-Annual Indicative Programme for Kyrgyzstan

The European Union (EU) has adopted a new Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) for Kyrgyzstan for the period 2021-2027, which is fully consistent with the goals and objectives set in the National Development Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2040, the EU Strategy for Central Asia and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that under the 2024 program, the EU will allocate grants to finance projects in such areas as governance and digitalization, human development, green and climate-resilient economy.

In governance and digitalization, priority will be given to promoting and strengthening the rule of law, good governance and digital transformation. In the area of human development, it is planned to support an inclusive and quality education system, as well as to promote gender equality and human rights. In the area of green and climate-resilient economy, effective and integrated water resources management and promotion of green business development will be promoted.

In addition, the EU presented a tentatively agreed matrix with target indicators needed for a new budget aid program for education sector reform, which is scheduled to be approved during 2022.

The bilateral program will be supplemented with resources to support regional cooperation and priority thematic issues such as the ERASMUS+ higher education program, trade development, security and scientific cooperation.
