EU investors interested in investing in renewable energy projects in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Nov. 23, 2021 . / Kabar / . Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev held a meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen.

The sides discussed the main issues of bilateral agenda and plans for the near future, including the visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to the EU headquarters with subsequent signing of an agreement on enlarged partnership and cooperation, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry’s press service said.

High Representative Borrell congratulated the Kyrgyz side on the successful holding of the First European Union – Central Asia Economic Forum at the level of heads of governments of Central Asia and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis, and informed about the interest of European investors to invest in renewable energy and sustainable development projects.

Minister Kazakbaev informed about the upcoming parliamentary elections in the republic and thanked for sending observers from the European side.

European Commissioner Urpilainen stressed the importance of open and democratic elections that will give impetus to the further development of the multifaceted relations between Kyrgyzstan and the EU.

In addition, Josep Borrell expressed concern about the problems in the mining industry of Kyrgyzstan.

In turn, the foreign minister of Kyrgyzstan invited European experts to create a working group to conduct an assessment of environmental damage since the independence of the republic.
