Brussels, Nov. 23, 2018. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov met in Brussels with EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.
The meeting was held in the framework of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Central Asia in the European Union with the participation of Mogherini.
After the meeting Aidarbekov told reporters that he could discus with Mogherini a whole range of relations between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union.
He said that sides noted with satisfaction a good level of cooperation, constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation that exists between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union.
“We emphasized the contribution that the European Union made to Kyrgyzstan. Today, within the framework of the 2014-2020 multi-year indicative program, the EU supports the sustainable development of the Kyrgyz Republic in several areas. Namely, this is education, the rule of law, rural development, energy and water. This support is important and significant. In general, the European Union is priority in Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy,” said the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister.
Aidarbekov added that in addition a multilateral format was discussed with Mogherini.
He added that the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries of Central Asia will be held today. The agenda includes a discussion of the current Strategy for Central Asia and a review of the new strategy, which according to the plan will be adopted in 2019.
“For the countries of the region, this is of great importance. We hope that great attention will be paid to transport and logistics, infrastructure, sustainable energy development, the solution of water and energy issues. In general, the adoption of this strategy demonstrates the great attention of the European Union to our region and its increasing importance,” added Aidarbekov.
