EU provides medical equipment and food for Batken and Osh Oblasts

Bishkek, May 1, 2020 / Kabar /. Medical institutions and residents of Batken and Osh Oblasts received protective equipment and food worth EUR 15 thousand from the European Union (EU) project “Strengthening public organizations and local authorities to promote social and economic development in the Leilek region”.

The EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic reported that the assistance was provided as part of EU support to authorities and local communities in the fight against COVID-19.

Emergency medical care and protective equipment: more than 3 thousand masks and 100 pairs of gloves, 100 sets of protective equipment, 50 sets of first aid were provided for the needs of Leilek district hospital, Batken regional hospital, Kyzyl-Kii city hospital, Osh city clinical hospital, Osh children's regional hospital, local medical centers in the villages of Ak-Terek, Korgon and Leilek of Batken region, the Endomed clinic in Osh and the territorial hospital in the village of Kurshab.

50 sets of sanitation products (antiseptics, chlorine, etc.) were also distributed.

Support for socially vulnerable groups: 40 households will receive vegetable seeds for eco-greenhouses built under the project. In addition, vulnerable groups (elderly people, migrant families, mothers with many children, children and PWDs) will receive 400 food packages, for the formation of which 10 tons of flour, 400 liters of butter, 400 kilograms of pasta, sugar, rice, 400 packages of tea are purchased.

This assistance was provided in the framework of a EUR 36 million support package for Kyrgyzstan announced earlier by the European Union. EUR 30.8 million of this amount will be transferred to the budget, the remaining funds are redistributed from the budgets of the EU projects and programs operating in Kyrgyzstan to support partners and local beneficiaries.

The above project is implemented by the Osh Village Consulting Service public fund in a number of villages in Leilek region of Batken, where 80% of the population lives due to agriculture. In the emergency situation caused by COVID-19, the local population is experiencing numerous difficulties, especially vulnerable groups of residents.
