EU remains committed to supporting Kyrgyzstan, Ambassador Auer

Bishkek, Jan. 21, 2021 / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev received Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic Eduard Auer to discuss plans for the current year, as well as upcoming events within the framework of cooperation.

The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said that during the conversation, Kazakbaev informed about the current internal political situation in Kyrgyzstan. He noted that the Kyrgyz Republic, as a country firmly committed to the democratic path of development, conducting a tough fight against corruption, protecting human rights and freedoms, is particularly interested in further strengthening and developing cooperation with the European Union in all areas of interaction. It was also noted that the acceleration of the further process of signing and ratifying the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union will play a special role.

Kazakbaev stressed that the Kyrgyz Republic is disposed to ensure that democratic principles, including obligations under bilateral and multilateral treaties and agreements, will be strictly observed to prevent a political crisis in the country.

Auer noted that the EU welcomes the well-organized presidential elections in the Kyrgyz Republic on Jan. 10, 2021. He emphasized that the presidential elections were an important step towards the return of political stability in the country. He also noted that the European Union remains committed to supporting the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting socio-economic development, good governance, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

The sides also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU, as well as upcoming events at the bilateral and multilateral levels. The importance of organizing and holding the 1st EU-CA Economic Forum in Bishkek in 2021 was especially emphasized. The sides noted the need to continue building up the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU, including within the framework of the EU project and program activities in the Kyrgyz Republic.
