Bishkek, April 11, 2022. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan and the European Union signed a grant financial agreement in the amount of EUR 32 million to assist in the field of inclusive education for children with disabilities.
EUR 32 million will be allocated for the budget support programme to help the Kyrgyz Government implement its Education Development Strategy during 2019-2021.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the 3rd phase of the budget support program aims to continue promoting a gender equality, inclusive education, including education for children with disabilities and multilingual education, as well as the integration of digital, green and media skills and literacy in urban and rural schools. The program also aims to help bring educational competencies and skills into line with the needs of the digital age.
Out of the total amount of assistance provided, EUR 27 million are allocated in the form of budgetary support, and EUR 5 million - in the form of technical assistance. The latter includes "twinning", a collaborative approach that allows the Kyrgyz government to draw on the experience of EU member states.
The new budget support program builds on the successful results of previous EU support to the education sector. The EU has already provided about EUR 72 million in 2014-2021.
Supporting a more inclusive education system is an integral part of the Global Gateway, an EU strategy that advocates for sustainable and reliable connections that work for people and the planet, while addressing the most pressing global challenges.
