Europe Day celebrated in Bishkek

Bishkek, May 11, 2018. / Kabar. /. The European Union celebrated the Europe Day in Bishkek.

The reception in honor of the Europe Day at Hayatt Regency Hotel on May 10 was attended by representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions in Kyrgyzstan.

Speaking at the event Charge’d Affairs of the European Union in the Kyrgyz Republic Jaap Ora said that the past year has been very successful in the cooperation between the European Union and Kyrgyzstan. “The visits of HR/VP Mogherini to the Kyrgyz Republic in November and President Jeenbekov to Brussels in April are important milestones in our relationship,” he said.

The Charge’d Affairs also said that last December the negotiations were opened on a new comprehensive agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the EU and expressed hope that this agreement can not only strengthen our current cooperation, but also open up new perspectives and raise our relations to a new level.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, director of the second political department Ulan Dzhusupov congratulating on the Europe Day said in his speech said that Kyrgyz attaches priority importance to the development of cooperation with the EU.

“We consider the European Union to be an important partner for sustainable development, and we are ready for closer cooperation. The recent visit of President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov, to the institutions of the European Union on April 11-12 this year is the evidence of it,” he said.

The Kyrgyz official expressed hope that the visit will be a continuation of the constructive dialogue between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU, and the agreements reached during the visit will be successfully implemented.

“I am confident that the partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union, established over the years of cooperation on the principles of mutual respect, openness and mutual understanding will continue to develop and strengthen steadily,” he said.

May 9 is celebrated as Europe Day in the European Union and around the world. It is also known as Schuman Day.

Europe Day is the name of an annual observance by the European Union, held on 9 May. The holiday commemorates the day in 1950 when French foreign minister, Robert Schuman, presented his proposal to create an organization of European countries. Also sometimes known as Schuman Day, the day aims to garner continuing support for the European Union and to educate citizens in member states and people in the rest of the world about the benefits of such an organization.
