Bishkek, Apr. 28, 2020 / Kabar /. The European Immunization Week (EIW) has started in Kyrgyzstan, which is held annually at the initiative of the European Regional Office of the World Health Organization.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Health, the main theme of this initiative in 2020 is “Prevent, Protect and Implant” vulnerable groups.
The goal of EIW is to increase vaccination coverage by informing parents and guardians, health workers, policy makers and decision makers, and the media about the importance of immunization.
In the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, routine preventive vaccinations were temporarily suspended until the epidemic stabilized. With the exception of vaccination of contact persons against measles and rubella and vaccination of newborns, which continues uninterruptedly in obstetric care organizations, the report said.
Mobile immunization teams will be working during EIW, supported by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization. These mobile teams were provided by WHO with personal protective equipment and first-aid kits.
In the period of EIW - 2020, urgent and routine measles / rubella immunization will be carried out in measles-affected areas, as well as routine vaccination of children in areas with low vaccination coverage.
Thanks to systematic immunization of the population in Kyrgyzstan, vaccine-controlled infections such as diphtheria, tetanus, tuberculous meningitis in newborns, and viral hepatitis B are not registered. Since 1993, the country has been free from polio, the report said.
