European Union allocates EUR 32 mln to support education system of Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, April 6, 2022 / Kabar /. The signing of a financial agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union under the program "Contract for reform in the education sector of the Kyrgyz Republic" took place in Bishkek.

The Ministry of Education and Science said that within the framework of this agreement, the European Union will allocate a grant to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic in the amount of EUR 32.0 million, of which 27.0 million will be used to support the republican budget of the country and EUR 5.0 million - for additional support.

EU assistance is aimed at helping to continue the reform of the education sector with a special focus on inclusive and equitable quality education in line with Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 5.

The main activities of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of this assistance will be aimed at enhancing the following values:

- inclusive and fair quality education, allowing more children to achieve at least a minimum level of knowledge in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), elimination of gender blindness in new methodological and educational materials, as well as increasing the number of schools with inclusive education, allowing the involvement of children with disabilities in the learning process;

- development of digital skills, allowing to increase the number of teachers trained in information and communication technologies skills and students who use a computer at school at least once a week;

- development of media literacy, allowing for systematic media literacy training for teachers and students;

- development of green skills, allowing for systematic training of green skills for teachers and students.
