Ex-President of USSR Gorbachev sends message to participants of Aitmatov Forum

Bishkek, Oct. 5, 2018. /Kabar/. Ex-President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev sent a message to the participants of the 3rd International Issyk-Kul Forum, the official opening of which was held on Friday in Bishkek.

Warm words addressed to Chyngyz Aitmatov were read aloud within the walls of Ala-Archa state residence.

“I welcome the participants of the 3rd International Issyk-Kul Forum, which takes place in a significant year - the year of the 90th anniversary of Chinghiz Aitmatov. I am sure that this date will still be celebrated in different parts of the world. After all, Chyngyz Torekulovich enjoyed and thanks to his books he continues to enjoy the love and recognition of millions of people in the world,” the message read.

Gorbachev called the writer a true master of thoughts, who gave his talent to people.

“His work and all his activities are permeated with respect for the human, concern for the fate of people. It was precisely this that led Chyngyz Torekulovich to the idea of ​​convening in 1986 the Forum of outstanding intellectuals of the East and West - writers, actors, artists, scientists, public figures. This was the beginning of the dialogue of cultures and the convergence of civilizations at the moment when the world made the first attempts to end the Cold War,” the ex-president of the USSR pointed out.

At the end of the message, he expressed the hope that the Forum would continue the traditions established by the great thinker and his colleagues in October 1986.
