Bishkek, Nov. 4, 2021 / Kabar /. Executive Vice President of the European Commission, European Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis has arrived today in Kyrgyzstan for an official visit, Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
Valdis Dombrovskis will hold meetings with the top leadership of Kyrgyzstan, including President Sadyr Zhaparov and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov.
He will also take part in the launch of two innovative cooperation programs worth more than EUR 10 million: a digitalization project (EUR 2 million) implemented by Estonia, Finland and Italy, and a rule of law project (EUR 8.8 million) implemented jointly with the United Nations Office on drugs and crime. He will also visit the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border checkpoint, which was supported by the EU Border Management Program in Central Asia.
On Nov.5, Executive Vice President Dombrovskis will represent the European Union at the first face-to-face EU-Central Asia Economic Forum in Bishkek. The event will bring together high-level representatives of the EU and Central Asia member states, organizations implementing EU projects in the region, representatives of the private sector from Central Asia and Europe, as well as development partners, including European financial institutions.
The Forum will provide an opportunity to exchange views on the priority needs of Central Asia in the area of sustainable economic development. The three main areas of the Forum will be green recovery, digitalization and improving the business environment.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Valdis Dombrovskis will also hold bilateral meetings with heads of delegations from Central Asian countries, including the prime ministers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as deputy prime ministers of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
