Bishkek, Mar. 19, 2019. /Kabar/. The opening of a photo exhibition “In the Spotlight!” will take place in Bishkek on Tuesday. It is dedicated to children with Down syndrome, their inner world, their experiences, and their parents. The initiators of the social project told about it in more detail at a press conference at the Kabar News Agency.
The public figure, academician of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio Assol Moldokmatova acted as the main ideological inspirer of the creative group, gathering famous photographers in Kyrgyzstan, as well as public and cultural figures.
According to them, the works presented at the exhibition embody the voices of their heroes, who shout: “We live in this world!” in order to break the veil of silence and detachment from the world of those healthy and fortunate.
“Every 800 people are born with a similar anomaly. A redundant chromosome is not a redundant person in society. But the situation in our country is exactly the opposite, people glance back, point a finger, utter unpleasant words. If the human consciousness is much higher and we talk about it openly and freely on all platforms, then we will bring up a healthy generation that will be tolerant towards children with Down syndrome, and children with cerebral palsy and autism,” Moldokmatova said.
She stressed that the photo exhibition has as its goal, above all, to call for tolerance. It includes about 50 works of three photographers: Aijan Nurlanbekova, Ruslan Rakhmanov and Tatiana Kazachenko. From now on it will be possible to see them at the Dordoi Plaza - 2 shopping center from 1:00 pm. The initiators of the social project, Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Gulmira Kudaiberdiyeva, deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Natalia Nikitenko, Director of the Luch Dobra public association Victoria Toktosunova and businessman Askar Salymbekov will take part in the opening of the site.
Soon, as Moldokmatova said, the works of the photographers will appear on the billboards of the central streets of Bishkek, as already agreed with Mayor of the city Aziz Surakmatov.
“But these projects are short-term. I would like to draw the attention of the government that the goal is not to create specialized kindergartens, but to create a very powerful platform to support children with Down syndrome for their active life and entry into society,” Moldokmatova noted.
She explained that this platform should include a social package of services that are necessary to support the parents of special needs children. She stressed that often many of the parents are forced to leave work and take care of their children. In this case, as is known, massage, medicines require considerable expenses.
In addition, Moldokmatova drew attention to the problem of adaptation of children with Down syndrome in society.
“We need to educate society so that children do not feel defective, we need to hold as many campaigns as possible, which will actually help our citizens to realize that these children are just like them,” Moldokmatova added.
Director of the Luch Dobra public association Victoria Toktosunova thanked for the support from the creative team of the project in informing the public about this issue. According to her, it is the preparation of society to show tolerance that is the main obstacle in adopting measures for inclusive education and upbringing, which is difficult for both public organizations and state bodies to solve. Therefore, such measures, in her opinion, should be carried out with the society through social dialogues like this exhibition.
Project photographers also expressed great joy in participating in this project and shared their impressions that they had in the work with the children. They have put these emotions and feelings into their pictures, which from today will gather their target group around themselves.
