Tashkent, Dec.23, 2019. /Kabar/. Director of Kyrgyz National Kabar News Agency Kubanychbek Taabaldiev has arrived in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara Region as an international observer to monitor the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes, UzA news agency reported.
Taabaldiev shared with journalists his impressions of Uzbekistan and the ongoing electoral process in Bukhara. In particular, he noted "the electoral processes conducted in your country under the slogan "New Uzbekistan, New Elections” are of great political importance.
In his view, one of the important aspects of this political event, held for the first time during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s administration, is its holding on the basis of the new Electoral Code, which has incorporated improved legislative documents.
"It provides ample opportunity for political parties that come up with new ideas for democratizing the country. Parties, competing for seats in the new parliament and representative bodies, have an opportunity to contest a seats in a healthy competition. Also, the Code provides new rules ensuring that a political event is held on the basis of equality, transparency and publicity," the media expert noted.
According to the director of Kabar, that's why the elections attract interest worldwide and are recognized as a kind of factor of openness of Uzbekistan to the whole world.
"I am overseeing the democratic changes in Uzbekistan. Definitely, their scale will expand. The new Electoral Code meets all norms and principles of international electoral legislation," Taabaldiev added.
He believes that preparations for the elections have been made in accordance with the requirements of the Code.
"I made sure of this when I arrived in Uzbekistan as an international observer and visited two polling stations in Tashkent. When I arrived in Bukhara to get a first-hand impression of the electoral process, I witnessed the elections taking place at the highest organizational level. Another important aspect is that there is an opportunity at the polling stations to get acquainted with information about candidates. All this testifies to the fact that even before the election voters were able to decide for whom to cast their votes. I visited three polling stations. Everywhere, citizens actively participated in voting. People have a strong sense of belonging to the country's future," said the head of the Kyrgyz agency.
Director Taabaldiev said openness and transparency are the most important things in the elections, and these principles are being observed. He added in conversations with observers from political parties he concluded that they have no claims to the ongoing process.
"Recently, one of Britain's prestigious magazines declared Uzbekistan the Country of the Year. This has become a recognition of the results of political, social reforms and democratic freedoms being carried out in your country, created for a comfortable life of the people," he said.
According to Taabaldiev, Uzbekistan will develop in all directions.
“Because your country pays great attention to entrepreneurship, creates opportunities for foreign investors who invest their funds in important projects. Whatever country your President is visiting, he meets with representatives of business circles everywhere, talks about guarantees of their rights, and this certainly strengthens the confidence of foreign investors and their desire to work in your country," he stressed.
