Professor of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar Beshimov speaking at a round table on the topic "Batken-2021: who is guilty and what to do?" with the participation of representatives from the CSTO, as well as with Russian and Kyrgyz experts said that there is such a situation in Kyrgyzstan that the core of the CSTO is Russia, and the guarantor of regional security between the members of this organization is the CSTO itself.
“Nobody expected that the CSTO would interfere, that it was necessary to address them in a formalized manner. We expected that this issue would be discussed on the spot. They will call for peace, when one beats the other, that's all. Now the understanding is coming that this is a deeply formalized organization and one should rely only on one's own strength. The CSTO could issue an appeal, terminate the actions of the regular army. Now the incident is being assessed by UN experts. Somewhere in the depths of our souls, our side hoped for all agreements and hoped that there would be no open aggression. We had a scenario similar to 2012, when there was a conflict between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan,” Beshimov said.
He also added that this is a lesson for Kyrgyzstan and that we should not count on organizations.
