Bishkek, Jan. 31, 2019. / Kabar /. The reason for the formation of smog in Bishkek is the stoves of thermal power plants and private sectors, Andrei Podrezov, chief of the department of meteorology, ecology and environmental protection of Kyrgyz-Russian Slavonic University told reporters in Bishkek.
He said that the level of air pollution in the capital increases mostly during the cold period, starting in November, when the heating season of the heat and power plant begins, as well as in private sectors.
“Pollution is also affected by vehicles, however, their harmfulness is not as great as compared to furnaces. Because cars mostly emit steam, as from a "boiling" kettle. For example, in England, in connection with this, the premises are heated only with electricity,” said the expert.
He also explained the reason of disappearing of the smog sometimes over the capital. The reason for this is weather conditions, he said.
“Most of all, the smog is formed when the air temperature is low or very low and there is no wind. Cold air "drives out" the warm air up, thus, the pipes of furnace of the private sector cannot rise high up and form a ball. The 300-meter CHP pipes allow to emit smoke higher, but, nevertheless, the pollution level remains high,” Podrezov said.
The specialist said that snowfall practically does not clear the air. Best of all, the wind affects the cleanliness of the urban pool, then harmful dust concentrations are reduced by 4-5 times.
