Bishkek, June 16, 2022 /Kabar/. During a press conference at Kabar News Agency on Thursday, energy efficiency expert of Unison Group Zhanybek Kulumbetov identified the main causes of smog in Bishkek.
Thus, following are causes of smog according to the specialist:
- burning of low-quality coal;
- transport;
- industrial enterprises.
"According to the results of 2021, Kyrgyzstan ranked 7th in the anti-rating of air quality. Compared to the 2020 indicator, the data has almost remained unchanged, despite the relatively warm winter. One of the main reasons for the above-mentioned indicators is that many residential areas in Bishkek are not connected to the urban infrastructure. Subsequently, due to the lack of access to gas and centralized heating systems, low-quality coal is used for home heating, tires and sewing waste are used, which leads to high rates of air pollution in the capital in winter," Kulumbetov said.
In conclusion, the expert added that, according to the World Health Organization, a third of deaths from strokes, lung cancer and heart disease are caused by air pollution. In addition, about 7 million people in the world suffer because of air pollution.
