Bishkek, Oct. 25, 2018. /Kabar/. Extremism and radicalism is a threat to the whole world, British Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Robin Ord-Smith told at the Central Asian Dialogue on Effective Prison Management of Violent Extremist and Terrorist Offenders.

He said that the reason for the support of the UK government in preventing the increase of radicalism and extremism in the world is that this problem may pose a threat not only in individual countries.

Smith noted that a radical that appears in Central Asia can do evil in the UK and vice versa a radical that appears in Britain can get to Central Asia.

In his opinion, it is necessary that extremists be helped in socialization.

The British Ambassador added that It is necessary to treat democratically people who have returned from hot spots like Syria. He continued saying that if we do not do this, then we will encourage the next generation of radicals. They should have the same rights and freedoms under the international convention. People in prisons need to be treated well, not discriminated against, so that they return to society and do not carry a threat.

The Central Asian Dialogue is being held in Bishkek on the issues of effective prison administration, maintenance and treatment of prisoners convicted of crimes of extremist and terrorist nature.

The event was organized by the representation of Penal Reform International (PRI) by the International Prison Reform in Central Asia in collaboration with the State Service for Execution of Punishment the Kyrgyz Government and co-organized with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

This event is being held within the framework of the project “Strengthening Countering Radicalization and Violent Extremism in Prisons in Central Asia through Religious Dialogue and Reintegration Programs”, implemented with the support of the UK government.
