Minister of Health and UNICEF representative in Kyrgyzstan discuss struggle against child mortality

Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2017 /Kabar/. Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Talantbek Batyraliev met with head of UNICEF in the Kyrgyz Republic Yukie Mokuo.

The press service of the Ministry of Health reported that at the meeting the sides discussed the results of the new global report "Level and Trends of Child Mortality, 2017".

According to data, every day in the world, 15 thousand children under the age of 5 die, 46% of which - 7 thousand newborns - in the first 28 days of life as of 2016. In Kyrgyzstan, in five years from 1990 to 2016 infant mortality decreased by two-thirds, and neonatal mortality was halved from 24 to 12 cases per 1000 newborns.

"We have done a very good job with the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and one of the results of our work can be considered this new global report, which showed that the death rate of children has decreased," Mokuo said.

Batyraliev, in turn, noted that a set of measures is being carried out with the support of UNICEF to reduce child and infant mortality.
