Fight against new types of drugs in Central Asia discussed in Bishkek

Bishkek, Feb. 6, 2019. /Kabar/. A regional seminar on “New Psychoactive Substances: Review and Best Practice in Drug Policy, Data Collection, Prevention and Treatment” has started in Bishkek.

The event is held with the participation of representatives of the Ministries of Interior, Health and other government agencies involved in drug control in the countries of Central Asia, as well as leading European experts in this field.

At the seminar, the situation with new types of drugs in the countries of Central Asia and the countermeasures taken by the states of the region will be examined. Specialists from European Union countries will share their experience in dealing with this threat.

The Kyrgyz delegation is headed by Colonel Oleg Zapolsky, head of the new Service for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The phenomenon of new psychoactive substances is still a serious problem for the public health system. In European countries, on average, new types of drugs are detected once a week and the availability of new psychoactive substances continues to grow. Most new psychoactive substances supplies come from China, and the proximity of Central Asian markets makes this region even more vulnerable to this disaster.

The event had been organized by the Central Asia Drug Action Programme (CADAP), funded by the European Union.
