Film “Ayka” about Kyrgyz migrant enters Oscar shortlist

Bishkek, Dec. 18, 2018. /Kabar/. Film by Sergey Dvortsevoy "Ayka" about a migrant from Kyrgyzstan entered the Oscar shortlist, the official site of the Academy Awards wrote.

Films such as “Birds of Passage” (Colombia), “The Guilty” (Denmark), “Never Look Away” (Germany), “Shoplifters” (Japan), “Capernaum” (Lebanon), “Roma” (Mexico), “Cold War” (Poland) and “Burning” (South Korea) were also incuded in the shortlist.

In the center of the plot is a migrant from Kyrgyzstan Ayka. In search of earnings, while not having registration, she is at risk of becoming prey to corrupt police and cunning compatriots.

The actress who played the main character – Kazakhstan's Samal Yeslyamova won Best Female Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.

At the 91st Oscar, film “Ayka” from Kazakhstan was presented in the nomination “Best Foreign Language Film”.
