Bishkek, April 25, 2022. / Kabar /. Bishkek hosted on Sunday the Unified Kyrgyzstan’s WT Taekwondo Championship, the Kyrgyz National Olympic Committee reported.
Leading athletes from the Kyrgyz capital and regions of the country took part in the competition. They represented the sections and clubs of two major organizations developing the sport in the country - the Kyrgyz WT Taekwondo Association and the National Federation of WT Taekwondo of the Kyrgyz Republic.
About 15 years ago, there were disagreements within the Taekwondo Association had a disagreement. Some coaches separated and began to develop taekwondo independently under the auspices of newly created organizations. Organizations were holding own separate tournaments and competitors were not allowed to participate.
The leadership of the National Olympic Committee took drastic measures to reach a consensus. The Committee initiated a negotiation process and held 15 meetings with members of the association, the federation, and its arbitration committee. The result was the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two associations.
"WT Taekwondo - an Olympic sport, and it has great potential in Kyrgyzstan. I am confident that the signed memorandum and the championship will give a new impetus to its development," says President of the National Olympic Committee Sadyr Mamytov.
