First hydropower unit of Kambarata HPP-1 planned to be commissioned in 2028

Bishkek, June 8, 2022. /Kabar/. The issue of Kambar-Ata HPP-1 construction was raised back in the Soviet times. Later on, with the growth of electricity consumption in the Kyrgyz Republic, its construction became a necessity, Minister of Energy of the republic Doskul Bekmurzaev wrote on his page in social networks.

He added that the country's leadership has set the goal of achieving energy security.

"This will be the key to Kyrgyzstan's economic prosperity and will provide the population with year-round uninterrupted access to electricity, as well as export potential within the CASA-1000 international project. In this regard, the construction of Kambar-Ata HPP-1 is more relevant than ever. The Ministry of Energy has started to implement the task set by the leadership," the minister said.

Bekmurzaev also noted that facilities that will be used by workers in the construction of the hydropower plant are currently under construction. This process will take about two years.

The first hydropower unit of Kambar-Ata HPP-1 is planned to be commissioned in 2028, and in general, the construction will take 8-10 years.

This hydroelectric power plant will become the largest power facility of the whole cascade of Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power plants. According to preliminary estimates, its capacity will reach 1,860 megawatts and it will produce 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. The height of the dam will be 256 meters, and the volume of accumulated water will be 5.4 billion cubic meters.
